Print Production

Today

Books, newspapers, brochures, catalogs, advertisements, training manuals ... you name it, I've produced it in print. I've got excellent skills in electronic photo-editing and production-oriented illustration, black and white or color. No fine art here, but solid production and business skills that will see the job through, from original concept to the final piece hot off the press.

My writing and editing skills add a valuable component to most projects, and I have experience with technical, sales and academic environments.

Please let me know if you would like to see my portfolio in a face-to-face meeting.

The old days

My background in publishing goes back to the days when former hot metal typesetters still reigned in the Wall St. Journal composing room (and resented women coming in with typing skills and getting those good jobs as typesetters). My first 'puter had one floppy drive, no hard drive and 512K of RAM. It brought me into the age of desktop publishing and computer graphics.

Actually, my background in the printing industry went further back than my days at the Wall St. Journal. My father's business (and his father before him) was Pittsburgh Metal & Equipment Co., making parts for Linotype machines. I have strong memories of the vats of molten lead burning a searing white in Newark, New Jersey.
